ORGL 506: Leadership and Diversity
Dr. David Houglum
The media and material for this course provided a solid foundation for some of the most challenging and vulnerable discussion posts in the program. Touching on issues of race, gender, sexuality, intersectionality, intercultural communication, representation, feminism, social class, social mobility, it was truly eye-opening.
For my Final Presentation, I chose to design a board training outlining key concepts covered in this class to move our stated value —“Fishtrap invites diverse voices into inclusive, brave spaces” — into actionable steps. The presentation establishes a common lexicon and set of definitions, identifies specific areas where we can improve our outreach and communication efforts, and act as a framework to create opportunities for continued learning.
“Once the poor can be represented as totally corrupt, as being always and only morally bankrupt, it is possible for those with class privilege to eschew any responsibility for poverty and the suffering it generates.”
