ORGL 535: Listen Discern Decide
Larry Spears
This course helped me learn to pay more attention to my own listening habits and begin to make changes. I also discovered how valuable a regular practice of deep silence can help connect me to what Sardello refers to as the “heart’s consciousness…The development of our capacity to use attention to enter the Silence of the heart makes conscious the heart’s spirituality” (2008, p. 96). I’m finding that this new (to me) focus on Silence and listening for my heart’s consciousness has reawakened a sense of awe.
My artifact is my final presentation: Collecting the Silence.
“Are we really listening? Are we listening to the one with whom we want to communicate? Is our basic attitude…wanting to understand?”
